The short version
This is a documentation site. You do not need an account, and we do not ask you for personal information. We use Google Analytics to count visits so we know which guides are worth expanding. That is the extent of it.
What we collect
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4. When you visit a page it records information such as the pages you view, roughly how long you stay, your approximate location (city level, derived from your IP address), your browser and device type, and the site that referred you. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to recognise returning visitors. We have IP anonymisation enabled, and we do not use Google Analytics for advertising personalisation.
You can opt out entirely with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on, by blocking analytics scripts in your browser or an extension, or by enabling "Do Not Track" — we honour it where the browser reports it.
Server logs
Our hosting provider keeps standard access logs (IP address, timestamp, requested URL, user agent) for security and troubleshooting. These are retained for a short period and are not combined with analytics data.
What we do not collect
- We do not ask you to create an account.
- We do not collect names, email addresses or payment details.
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties for marketing.
- Code you type into the interactive editors on this site never leaves your browser. It is not sent to us or stored anywhere.
Cookies
The only cookies set on this site come from Google Analytics (_ga and related identifiers), used to distinguish one visitor from another. We set no advertising or tracking cookies of our own. Blocking cookies for this domain will not stop any part of the site from working.
Third-party services
Pages here link out to sites such as MDN, the W3C validators and Can I use. Once you follow a link you are subject to that site's privacy policy, not ours. Embedded example code you run in our editors executes locally in a sandboxed frame in your own browser.
Your rights
If you are in the EU, UK or a jurisdiction with comparable law, you have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, and to object to processing. In practice we hold almost nothing that identifies you. For analytics data, Google's privacy policy and data controls apply.
Children
This site is aimed at a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of this page.
